Falcons heavily scouting the offensive lines at the Senior Bowl

By D. Orlando Ledbetter

FAIRHOPE and MOBILE, Ala. — Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and director of player personnel Lionel Vital were intensely watching the offensive linemen at the South Practice on Monday.

Over at the North’s practice, here’s how Falcons head coach Mike Smith had the offensive line stacked.

The first-string line was left tackle Zach Martin (Notre Dame), left guard Cyril Richardson (Baylor), center Weston Richburg (Colorado State), right guard Brandon Linder (Miami), and right tackle Seantrel Henderson (Miami).

The second-team offensive line was left tackle Brandon Thomas (Clemson), left guard Radeem Edwards (Tennessee State), center Tyler Larsen (Utah State), right guard Michael Schofield (Michigan) and right tackle Jack Mewhort (Ohio State).

“We’ve got some big guys,” Smith said. “I was impressed at the weigh-in this morning. We have a lot of size. I watched them in the one-on-ones. I didn’t watch the pass rush drills, but they showed some strength. It’s going to be fun to watch these guys develop.

“Winning the line of scrimmage is probably the most important think in the NFL. There are 32 teams here wanting to solidify both of their lines.”

Henderson, who has some baggage, and Martin were impressive.

“This is my first experience of being inside the ropes so to speak,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “I can tell this, from the first 24 hours, I’ve gleaned a lot more information that what I would have gotten if was standing on the sidelines or up in the stands. I’m looking forward to embracing spending a week with, not only the guys in the North team, but guys on the South squad as well.”

Falcons need help on the O & D line. Trade down to get a later 1st rnd & extra 2nd rnd. A lot of teams will be looking to trade up to get a QB.

Also look at FA to improve the team. I like the draft but no player is guarantee coming out of college. Look at Seattle & S.F.  D, they built their Ds from FA with a hint of drafted players.

Too many GMs and fans get too caught up in the college draft. What's that QB from Fla that came out a few yrs ago that everybody was so crazy about drafting...I heard teams and fans talking bout trading up to get him...CAN YOU SAY BUST!!!! SO DON'T GET TOO CAUGHT UP IN WHAT THEY DID IN COLLEGE...

IT'S A TOTAL DIFFERENT GAME

We don't need a quarterback.....if one is available at our pick we should trade our pick to the Vikings who are desperate for a quarterback!  We can swap picks with them and make sure they throw in another high 2nd round pick or a decent starting offensive lineman currently on their roster!  We can't get enough good offensive lineman.....it's our weakest link and the key to getting back to the playoffs next year!  We are on borrowed time with Ryan taking so many hits.....he's bound to get injured seriously unless we address this issue and address it NOW!  It wouldn't hurt to pick up offensive lineman that can both pass block and open a hole bigger than a mouse can get through!  Right now, we don't have one that is a great run blocker, either!

I wish Lionel Vital was going to Tampa Bay or UAB.

Falcons need O-Line help and D-Line help badly.....it's imperative that we get players who can contribute in 2014.

"Kadeem Edwards," if you don't mind. Is anyone covering the NFLPA game?

Why would we trade up to draft him????? I'm not saying he's gonna be a bust but this is not college football. Now he will be going up against DE & LBs that run 4.5 - 4.7 in the forty. In college maybe one guy on the D line ran a 4.5. NFL is a faster game.

Why would you trade up for him when we don't have O lineman to block for him.
