FAIRHOPE and MOBILE, Ala. — Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and director of player personnel Lionel Vital were intensely watching the offensive linemen at the South Practice on Monday.
Over at the North’s practice, here’s how Falcons head coach Mike Smith had the offensive line stacked.
The first-string line was left tackle Zach Martin (Notre Dame), left guard Cyril Richardson (Baylor), center Weston Richburg (Colorado State), right guard Brandon Linder (Miami), and right tackle Seantrel Henderson (Miami).
The second-team offensive line was left tackle Brandon Thomas (Clemson), left guard Radeem Edwards (Tennessee State), center Tyler Larsen (Utah State), right guard Michael Schofield (Michigan) and right tackle Jack Mewhort (Ohio State).
“We’ve got some big guys,” Smith said. “I was impressed at the weigh-in this morning. We have a lot of size. I watched them in the one-on-ones. I didn’t watch the pass rush drills, but they showed some strength. It’s going to be fun to watch these guys develop.
“Winning the line of scrimmage is probably the most important think in the NFL. There are 32 teams here wanting to solidify both of their lines.”
Henderson, who has some baggage, and Martin were impressive.
“This is my first experience of being inside the ropes so to speak,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “I can tell this, from the first 24 hours, I’ve gleaned a lot more information that what I would have gotten if was standing on the sidelines or up in the stands. I’m looking forward to embracing spending a week with, not only the guys in the North team, but guys on the South squad as well.”
