Joe Hawley, who helped to stabilize the center position last season, was signed to a two-year contract extension on Tuesday, according to the Falcons.

Hawley played in all 16 games last season and started seven at center.

Hawley, 6-3, 302 pounds, was selected in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2010 NFL draft out.

He has played in 53 games with seven starts during his four seasons with the Falcons.

Hawley saw his most extensive action in 2011, when he started 12 games.

The Falcons, who have elected not to use the franchise or transition tag this offseason, have agreed to terms with Hawley and Jonathan Babineaux and have signed tackle/guard Michael Johnson and defensive tackle Corey Peters to a one-year contract extensions.

The Falcons’ list unrestricted free agents include defensive tackle Peria Jerry, tackle Sean Locklear and tackle Jeremy Trueblood, tight end Chase Coffman, cornerback Dominique Franks and linebacker Omar Gaither.

Never heard of him.  (Maybe that is good thing ---- no "drama" to contend with.  Need steady, hard working players than can fly under the radar while putting forth adequate effort.)

I saw  today who got better the falcons with the 340 pound Miami player good player, tampabay and saints got 100 percent better, Carolina stayed the same , but seatlle keeping Bennett, and 49ers , are still much better than Atlanta so in vegas when I go to make bets on 2 teams in each league for super bowl , the first day of free agency shows a lot , the falcons will not win the south this year , tampa bay will win the south with lovie smith if they win 2 0r 3 in a row and tampa gets that winning feeling it will be tough for Atlanta because they can never win at tampa anyway .

HAWLEY REALLY REALLY , REALLY , AND SCOTT PEOOLI IS WHAT GOOD EXPERIENCE ON OFFENSIVE LINE , IF A FROG HAD WINGS HE WOULDN;T bump his butt every time he hops , as usual, today seattle , 49ers, are 100 present better than Atlanta , and don.t forget GREEN BAY with a healthy rogers will be a beast and the falcons get who ?

Brainless move on Hawley.  Shows me Dimitroff hasn't learned anything.  This is just too depressing.  I have too many memories of Hawley being pushed back into Ryan's body, and quickly.  I don't think I was dreaming.  I was in fact just watching the Falcons play.

falcons will always settle with signing average/good players. Then when they draft defensive ends they usually always end up as busts! NFC making crazy moves right now...falcons??? settle with being average

Any truth to the rumor that they also signed Gabe Carimi an OL that was cut by Tampa?

Surprised by this move! Maybe we just dont know? I just did not see much in this guy last year! Especially up the middle at center.  I would be curious to know how Hawley graded out at the center position over the seven games he started. Any word on that Dled. And why Hawley, do they feel that good about him?

At the very least, they could have tinkered with the idea of Sean Spencer. Thats another of Tice's boys. Maybe David Baas. How much more will they actually get in FA?

I don't hate Hawley, he's certainly better than King Konz but 2 yrs on the 1st day of FA!!!

Really?

Peters,Hawley,Johnson and Babineaux? Looks like our line is going to be as great as it was last year. Apparently we have the same talent evaluators as always. Insanity=doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

SMDH, OK, they aren't going to blow up the rotation. Big Crimson called it!

@JerryMcCrary  I agree with you. Should have kept Abraham to pair up with OSI. Let him walk. Abe get 11.5 sacks. I wish they would pick up Demarcus Ware and put him on the otherside. This would be a formitable pass rush then pick up linebacker from UCLA.

@BigCrimson75

I agree! I am hoping and praying that something is in the making for a BIG time move on the defense! I see that Ware just got released by the Cowboys and if healthy he could absolutely cause havoc for any team. Maybe, just maybe I see them pulling the trigger on Ware or even Allen at this point? Perhaps even Henry Melton on the dline? I see them absolutely going in the draft and continuing to build from the inside out? One more possiblity might be Clemons from Miami? But man I am confused!

@doktrt  Demitroff and Smith will be FIRED after this year. So hold on. Blank isn't having that this year.

They backloaded Solilai, not a fan of that with the cap possibly going to $150M by 2016. So you won't really get the bump that year because you'll have Julio's extension entertng the 2nd year (in all likelihood). Morever, Ryan numbers start pushing up that season: $23,750,000.00 Cap number. :(
