UPDATE, Fri 8:32 a.m.:  Devin Hester signed a three-year contract worth $9 milllion. He received a $2.5 million signing bonus.

The Falcons have now committed $107.36 million to player contracts this offseason.

The Falcons have set up a conference call for Hester at 10 a.m. Check back later for the Q&A.

PREVIOUS POST: I think we can call off the Devin Hester watch, for now, at least.

The report by ESPN’s Rob Demovsky that Devin Hester wants $4 million a year is true!!!

The Falcons have been shrewd in free agency and likely can’t and won’t fulfill that request.

Hester is represented by Eugene Parker, who also has Falcons defensive end Tyson Jackson and running back Steven Jackson. So, they’ve worked out deals in the past, and may still be able to salvage this one.

The Falcons are closing in on the $100-million spending mark this offseason. They’ve added contracts worth $98.360 million.

Here’s your Falcons free-agency tracker:

Cap Space update

The Falcons, who have spent $98.360 million this offseason, have salary cap room of $9.42 million, according to NFLPA documents.

You can only count the guaranteed money in the NFL so that $100M is really a lot less.  Also every player that is on that unsigned list needs to stay unsigned.  Those guys are not contributors so let them go!!

Now we can get better field position for the offense.

Not a bad signing.  He wanted 4... got 3... you would've been naive to think he'd take 2 or less.  And the 2.5 mil signing bonus was smart for future salary cap purposes.

On another note, poor Matt Schaub - off to the Raiders.  His career is over.  Now the Raiders are out of the QB hunt... I wonder how that will shake up the top 5 selections.

The Falcons are committed to only $39,095,000.  The rest is non guaranteed, and will only be paid if it fits into the Falcons' plans when the time comes.  They can even cut the player, and ask him to redo his deal.

For the abuse that the players put their bodies through, the NFL has the most unfavorable contracts.

Good deal, now work on trading up for Jadeveon Clowney and get to the Super Bowl.

All I know is, if we don't get a legitmate talent (not the Maponga, Goodman, Massaquoi, Biermann, variety), I'm going to be ticked. #getmack.

WOOP! At least we got rid of DaCoupe! The former 28 always blamed something other than himself for his poor play. If it wasn't the fans fault, it was surely the fault of the scheme. My grandma could tackle better. I'm really surprised though that Perrier Jerry was re-signed. Rewarding poor play makes no sense.

@JLTee Shaun Phillips!!!! I have been saying it for weeks.  He is an aging veteran so he wont command big $$ but clearly can still get after the QB.  The guy has 19.5 over the last 2 seasons with 4 forced fumbles, 8 Passes defended and 1 interception.

He would be a hug upgrade over Bartu or a 2nd or 3rd round OLB,  a great mentor for our young LBs, and veteran leader on defense.

I am game. As bad as the offensive line has been, (minus Abe), we haven't had a pass rush in years. We lost the NFC Championship, almost lost the Seattle game, and made Geno Smith look like Joe Montana because of a lack of pass rush. Heck, everyone blamed Brookings for the Arizona play, but how much time did Warner have in the pocket. If we don't get it in FA, we need to make it our business to get it in the first round. Enough with this patchwork passrush business.

It is a "Cap with the Cap" situation. There is some nuisance to how that cap works, don't intermingle them yet. But be aware, the proportion is coming and those slotted salaries and guarantees will be coming! Then you'll be pretty hard against the threshold.
