5 reasons why the Falcons should sign DeSean Jackson

By D. Orlando Ledbetter

Dunta Robinson laid a vicious hit on DeSean Jackson back on Oct. 17, 2010. Both players were knocked out of the game.

In a bizarre move, the Philadelphia Eagles released Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson on Friday.

All of the talk about gang ties is suspect.

If he was in a gang, the NFL and the Eagles would have known that after all of the pre-draft background checks back in 2008. His release likely had more to do with his $12.5 million salary cap number and the Eagles decided to re-sign Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper.

Don’t expect Jackson to stay unemployed long.

Here are five reasons why the Falcons should sign Jackson.

  1. AGE: He’s 27 and his future is ahead of him.
  2. INSURANCE: He provides another weapon and insurance against Julio Jones’ foot and Roddy White’s age. There’s no guarantee that Jones will return to the level of play he was ascending to before his injury. White is 32 and turns 33 in November. He’s not going to play forever.
  3. WEAPON: He’s had three 1,000-yard seasons. Last season he amassed 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns and went to the Pro Bowl.
  4. RETURNER: He can also return punts.
  5. ENEMY: The Falcons wouldn’t have to face him if he’s on their team. Back in 2010, he almost single-handedly scorched the Falcons. He scored on a 31-yard run on an end around and a 34-yard reception, before Dunta Robinson leveled him with a helmet-to-helmet hit. The hit knocked both players out of the game.

D LED,

Did you let seendatb4 write this article??? I dont know if you watch the Falcons much since you sure dont ask any tough questions during the season but this team could spend there money in much needed places rather then Desean Jackson. How about a Safety, Shut Down Corner, or Defensive End.

GET A CLUE  Bedwetter!!!

"Returner," "Weapon," "Insurance." Didn't we already sign a guy to fill those needs in the name of Devin Hester?

Dled, I easily agree with you on Jackson.

Does he come with an OL and/or pass rusher?........

And here are 5 reasons why we should not......

2)LG

3) C

4) RG

5) RT

They all need work and should be priority #1. What good is DeSean when Ryan face down with a mouth full of turf.

notevensurprised
notevensurprised

here's another 5 reasons

1) the falcon would be able to giet their drugs and guns at a discounted rate

2) jackson can call his gang buddies to drive escort to and from the varous strip clubs in atlanta

3) when out of beer jackson's gang buddies can go on a beer run and rob the nears convience store of all of their beer

4) the gang members can get rid of all of the baby's mommas when the players don't want them around anymore

5) the gang members know all of the best "skrippers" and ho's in every away game town

5 Reasons Why Atlanta JC should fire Orlando Ledbetter

AGE: He has the sophistication of a fetus.

INSURANCE: Constantly having to shove our foot up his butt because his insight is miserably inaccurate has raised our risk of injury and thus our insurance rate.

WEAPON: Pandering to the least common denominator of football nitwits that would probably rather have Vick than Ryan is the ammo in the poop cannon that is his mouth.

RETURNER: Devin Hester.

ENEMY: Last year Intelligent Journalistic Integrity lost after those huge come from behind posts that raised the vomit inducing bar to never before seen heights. If "fired" signs him, Intelligent Journalistic Integrity won't have to worry with battling against his unclever and ludicrously idiotic random number of reasons justifying things like why macaroni and cheese should be a vegetable.

...and here's a 6th reason to sign him... Atlanta has plenty of Crips, so he'll be right at home.

5 reasons not to sign him: L-OT, L-OG, C, R-OG, and R-OT.  Sign linemen, linemen and more linemen, both O-line and D-line.

Why do we (the broader range of AJC posters) even post links or have hours of online discussions when someone can come on board days or hours later and regurgitate information already covered?

From Pro Football Weekly 2013 Preview:'you know he'll have a role in this offense If He can stay healthy ,which has been tough to achieve in his career'.

From NBC Sports.com :'Per the report, the team also was concerned about his “bad attitude, an inconsistent work ethic, missed meetings and a lack of chemistry with head coach Chip Kelly.'

From The Wire.com:

'According to the report, the Eagles have become concerned by Jackson's friendships with some reputed members of the L.A.'s Crips gang. In 2010, an associate of Jackson's who worked for his "Jaccpot" rap label was arrested for a gang-related murder. To be clear, Jackson wasn't a suspect or witness to the crime and was not at all involved in the investigation, though police confirmed they did speak with him over the phone. And the associate was later acquitted of the murder charge. However, the friendship appeared to be cause for concern in the Eagles' front office.

In 2012, another gang-related murder occurred near an L.A. building that a member of Jackson's family owned or leased, LAPD detective Eric Crosson told NJ.com. A search of the place turned up some of Jackson's old receipts and gun permits. He was never considered a suspect in that case, either.

Crosson does note, though, that Jackson has been seen in several photos with one of the murder suspects and flashes Crips gang signs in photos and in games. His "Jaccpot" rap label, Crosson argues, is spelled with two Cs on purpose to denote his Crips affiliation.'

You people are idiots.

First of all Ledbetter  - your comment about "All of the talk about gang ties is suspect." is in itself suspect.

It's not talk.

It's public record.

Try becoming a journalist and practicing some old fashioned journalism and looking at the public records in LA related to the 2 murders.

Or - if you are incapable of doing that - you do know how Instagram and Twittter work don't you?

But that won't be of much help to you now - since DSJ artfully deleted all his gang affiliated posts from those sites.

Well OK then - you do know how to look at a film from NFL films don't you?

Go look at DSJ throwing up Crips signs during the Redskins game.

To a guy named DeAngelo Hall no less.  You do remember him don't you?

It's not suspect.

It's fact.

And after A Hernandez, Vick, Ray Killer Creek Lewis - Arthur Blank would rather lose games than see his billion dollar brand destroyed.

It's pretty clear that not many of your people advocating for yet another hoodlum to come to Atlanta have any business sense or have ever worked beyond the front counter at McDonalds.

NO - contrary to your assertion - the Eagles has real concerns about his ongoing affiliations and relationships.  He exhibited disturbing intolerance of his empolyer's legitimate concern.

That's called thumbing his nose at them and showing up at Tweezy's get out of jail party - if you need it spelled out.

OLed - please stop embarrassing yourself.

Do some basic research before you start grunting.

You're looking sadder than usual.

Umm, yeah... What he said--ish.

By DOL's logic and apparently the majority of fans, Atlanta should draft Sammy Watkins which is insane on its own, but add in roughly 7-8 mil a year and its the proverbial pooping of the bed, this idea.

DOLdol
DOLdol

However many every reason minus five is. My estimate... fitty-leven. I can think of at least 10 reasons the Falcons should sign Freddy Mercury.

1. Low Injury Risk

2. Leader in the locker room

3. Affordable, can be had for incentive laden 1 yr. deal

4. Fan favorite

5. Will beat out Michael Sam as first gay NFL player

6. Champion pedigree

7. Competitive and agile, making opponents bite the dust

8. Can play the half time show when Atlanta makes the superbowl

9. Balls

10. Has a head

No matter how many facts you drop JSSN that we need some MEAN NASTIES to play a sport that is full of mean nasties, you just cant and wont be able to educate folks..................

Heck half of these people that you trying to educate and that are saying no to Jackson is the same half that was begging for the Quartet of G.M's ( no one steal that I am putting a patent on that) to sign Richie Icognito..............AMAZING!

JSS....Haley was a monster! 5 rings?

Good footage. Almost forgot about Lee Woodall.

Interestingly I caught the replay of the SB XXIII yesterday on the NFL Network.

Montana winning game MVP was an outrage!! He's was terrible that game---so was Esiason!

Haley, Romo, Walter, Fagan, Lott, Larry Roberts(Roll Tide), Carter, etc. SF's D(coached by Seifert) & their O-Lines never got enough credit.

I always considered SB XL the worst officiated SB, until I caught that replay yesterday!!

Poor Sam Wyche....He didn't gave a chance.

@JSSNOn the contrary, rather than'regurgitating information already covered' I posted factual REAL press coverage on this kid, none of which has been accurately covered at all, well aware that the local peanut gallery would as usual, tear into the opinions of someone of a different racial orientation than they possess. You,JSSN,somehow didnt even know that Jackson's label is not Jackpot, but Jaccpot, and anyone who has spent any time in LA is well aware of what avoiding the C(RIP) K(ILLER) credo in his label name truly means.

So argue with LAPD,which is merely covering it's butt against litigation, argue with NBC Sports, argue with The Wire. Im not 'regurgitating' anything.

Well such is life, but you know I've been laughing. I get this Deja Vu moment every year here! What was that you threatened to do to me last year about this time? :-) I knew you get a kick out this whole onslaught that I had to wade through. ;-) I can't wait for this draft to be over! Incognito is just crazy, people act like this is like infantry, they forget that one crazy behind in the infantry can get a whole platoon wiped out! SMDH Peace!

@BigCrimson75

Yep, has 5 rings, and none of them came by accident.

All NFL football is poorly officiated, that is what makes the replacements such a farce (they were actually worse)!

As for Sam Wyche, he had his chance, the Bengals dropped it right in the end zone (the Montana pass thrown and dropped). You never give him two chances.

I lived in E. LA, Los Feliz, and in S. Pasadena over a 9 year period (between 1997-2006) when not location shooting. You're too funny, I've been to Crenshaw-Dominguez football and basketball games. There's no one "Crips" (there are gangs by neighborhoods who claim "Crip")! SMDH

@zuzu331

Ledbetter did not posted his blog until 4:56PM. If you're going to be a "gravy-train poster," do it right, break new ground.

I know it is "Jaccpot," it was "noted" in the same "NJ.com" piece that and 3 other posters linked up in this particular blog a full 35 hours and again at 20 hours before you.

Here's a simple reason for the name "Jaccpot Records," go do a trademark search. Jackpot Records (in Portlantd, OR) has held that trademark for 17 years. Maybe Crosson should have been calling an "entertainment lawyer" instead of drawing gang affiliations.

Det. Barling also noted in the LAPD's statements (again linked nearly a 36 hours before you gravy trained your comments) regarding Jackson's association (or lack of them) dating back to the whole 2010 murder and acquittal of Shakir. A whole section of comments went over everything you noted. You just chose not to pay attention. ProFootbalTalk (nor The Wire) did not break new ground, they took two articles that had already posted the material and moved on. The LAPD statement came out within 2 hours of the Jackson Statement. You quote Crosson liberally, but by 5PM that same day of the statement, Crosson had cancelled an on-air phone  appearance on Philadelphia sport talk show -- 'Jon and Sean.' So did you know that?

zuzu331
zuzu331

@JSSN @zuzu331OK,really?Who would bust on someone for not including all available search engines? WHO TALKS LIKE THAT? That is bizarre on a level that baffles me.It is somewhat familiar, however, having raised kids.I will tell you who talks like that-12 year old girls trolling on the interwebz talk JUST like that, calling stuff 'old' and picking at whatever 'mean girl'nonsense they can think of.The instant posture from 'mean girl' trolling troll to wronged victim as well as referring to Sanford and Son,a tremendously popular show in the 70's,(not really too long ago) as 'old' give you away, fool.  I really do enjoy it when you get mad because you drop the old wise black guy thing and veer off into what you REALLY are, some pi**ant psychopathic interwebz troll desperate for whatever attention you can get.

@zuzu331

Precious, you've yet to use one punctuation mark in an appropriate place and yet you're going to pretend to be outraged? Cry me a river! An "debate" using "point-to-point" progression would require something to be "logical" about in the first place. That's never been your strong point. It is why you drop in hours after discussions have been completed and try to act that you're breaking new ground or adding something. Glad you have a "search engine" (pssst, there's more than one). Hopefully one day you will learn to add some context when using such information.

Oh, you may want to address the person that felt I was " 'educating' the unenlightened' " (you didn't close the quotation correctly). I've never used that term. Nevertheless, I continue to be entertained by you. Here's something that might help that overuse of single quotation marks that goes on and on with you. I have "empathy" for people who deserve it. I'm not like you, a smarmy and indignant tripe lover. There's some more 1970s comedy on TV Land, go and grab some more microwave popcorn and think up some "47 cats" and "Mom's Basement" jokes!
