Each morning, from now until the draft starts on May 8, we’ll do a short profile of a player who’s on the Falcons’ Draft Board. We’ll focus on team-needs, possible selections, players the Falcons have worked out and/or interviewed, etc. The Falcons own 10 picks in this draft. Today we’ll look at Auburn defensive end Dee Ford, who’s set to visit Flowery Branch this week.

 Player: Dee Ford

Position: Outside linebacker/defensive end

School: Auburn

Height and weight: 6-1, 250

Pro Day numbers:  Vertical: 35 1/2. Broad: 10-4. Bench: 29 times. 40-yard dash: 4.53. Ford was not medically cleared at the combine because of a 2011 back surgery.

Projected Round: He’s the second-rated defensive end/outside linebacker in the draft and projected to be selected in the first round by NFLDraftScout.com.

Career Highlights: Ford terrorized tackles in the SEC last season as he finished the regular season with 12.5 tackles for loss, including 8.5 sacks. He was named to the coaches and Associated Press’ all-SEC team. He was the arguably the best player at the Senior Bowl.

Quotes: “I’m never satisfied. I’m really looking forward to the future. Dropping in space, it was something that was foreign to me, but I was able to really get some things done with that. Now, I’ve got some things to look forward to and to work on between now and the draft.” Ford believes he’s a better player than South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney.

Falcons level on interest: The Falcons are looking at all of the pass-rushing defensive ends in the draft. They would have to trade back into the first round to select Ford. He won’t be around when they pick in the second round.

Here is when the Falcons will select. The NFL draft is set for May 8-10:

  • Round 1 – No. 6 overall
  • Round 2 – No. 37 overall
  • Round 3 – No. 68 overall
  • Round 4 – No. 103 overall
  • Round 4 – No. 139 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 5 – No. 147 overall
  • Round 6 – No. 182 overall
  • Round 7 – No. 220 overall
  • Round 7 – No. 253 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 7 – No. 255 overall (compensatory)

Sign Aldon Smith when the 40whiners release him. Isn't he related to Mike Smith?

We may not be getting the best pass rushing prospect of the last 15 years, but hey, at least we played hard with all our 1st stringers to bring us to 3-12 against Washington this year....RIDICULOUS..  What was our staff thinking

Falcons need to sign a hold snapper and a 3rd string quarterback!

Dee sure did have a great Senior Bowl game. Looked like a Pro for sure that day. Wouldn't mind getting him in a later round...

He'll get a few sacks in his career, but little else.

This tape tells me to stay far away from Ford........useless in run defense and one dimensional as a rusher........looks average at best........

Yo DLed, is this the best tape you have on D Ford?? If I were D Ford's father, your phone would be ringing off the hook for sure.

D Ford doesn't show me anything inside this tape review, what are all you people looking at?????

Go Falcons

He'd be a good outside linebacker. Falcons could use him.

I like him but he's too small to play DE in the NFL. He's best at 3-4 Rush Linebacker. Straight ahead, no drop. I could easily see him in New Orleans.

@JSSN @Rory_Bellows  Ledbetter is not the one getting banned. For pointing out his errors, I do. Suck that he can't do his job and even more so that he can't handle the critique.

@DOrlandoLedbetter What I meant was, considering N.O.'s change in defensive philosophy, he may not make it past them. He would be an excellent pick for our Falcons, but not as a pure DE in a 4-3 or dropping in coverage as a OLB in any scheme. Much like Anthony Barr, he is a pure edge rusher from the OLB spot, just how the Steelers like them.

They've created their own psychological  fantasy world. I had to admit that I got a chuckle out of the two who compared you (and by proxy I) to a 14 year old Under Armor ad campaign!

Let me be careful, this is considered: "sucking up!"

You still have time to hit the Edit button on that last post. You may want to self-edit!

The 49ers and the Chargers too. Could find a home in Houston too.

Blah...Blah...Blah! Well, well, well, look who is just being silly again. No matter how you keep to trying that silly little semantics word play to try to frame my dislike of what Matt Ryan's play; you can't change the narrative! it is not about "race." I won't dignify that asinine mess.

He throws INTs in big post season games. He slides (more than once by the way) yards short of contact in the post-season. He did it in the Arizona. He did it against the Packers. He did it against the Giants. He's done it multiple times in the regular season, he didn't do it quick enough against that late shot from Vaccaro! Oh, it was a penalty no doubt, but he got his money's worth!! He fumbles in the post-season as well and it costs points! You tied your carriage to that horse, live with it when it keeps finishing out of the money. You have a lot in common with Vikings, Cowboys, and Chargers fans!

Oh, you hate when your loser ball comes back around on the roulette wheel. Pish posh, nothing you post has been more than just a blatant lie. (JaMarcus) Russell was a bust! I dogged him. You and that phony patrician RangeRover keep trying every veiled argument you can throw against a blog wall to make this about anyone other than Ryan (his limitations as anything other than as a 70s era pocket passer or his small basket of strengths). I guess that is "racial?" Call me when Matt Ryan can out-duel Kevin Kolb, Dennis Dixon, or Geno Smith. Now go blame it on the defense, that scapegoat is a easy excuse for the man who has thrown a Pick 6 in 2 of the 5 playoff games he's started! Meanwhile, throw in a safety and fumble return for a TD too! Hey, he does finally have something in common with Peyton Manning!

Take solice you online jackal, Stan Humphries, Kerry Collins,  and Rex Grossman all made it to the Super Bowl once upon a time! Maybe the Super Bowl god will look favorably on your team again like it did on Chandler. Oh, that's right, that didn't end well! Sorry for ripping off that band-aid!

Oh, tell us all some more about Under Armor ad campaigns! You're an media expert aren't you? ;-)

@JSSN  Look,Queen Of The Day,If youre gonna just come back and come back like a pissy little 12 year old dont RESAY the things I say to you, that gives yourself away! 'Ha Ha' and 'Clown' are things I say.'SMDH','Ryan has no Heart,he slid once and he's just too damn white!' and 'Dont give me none a that Marietta white folk mess!' Those are YOUR things(suck on your teethus really loud when you say that stuff). Come up with something NEW and keep your online characterization straight,mm'k?

Ha ha, "a hyphen?" I'll keep waiting for the evidence on that one. Ha ha, you can't even put a <space> between words or punctuation marks properly! Like I said, you're Precious. Again, you keep trying to lecture about sentence structure, syntax, or word use. Yet, you can't even use a simple punctuation rule. I'm not talking about a "hyphen.Sad thing is that you know what you're doing, I just kick back and watch you stew in it.

"Youre not in charge of anything."

Hey, I'm know I'm a guest (on a AJC blogs), you certainly don't! Enjoy that wonderful "fantasy world" battle that you're continuing to engage in here. A run on sentence in one of your posts is "Like (Morning) Dew in Dixie," always present! Go buy some more Under Armor!

@JSSN @zuzu331  What you fail to grasp, along with the hilarious inability to follow a logical train of progression or how to use plurals and pronouns,is that I won from the moment you tried to 'wear me down' with your incessant stream of childish nonsense. This is a free content sports blog and people are entitled to express their opinions without being badgered by some bizarre internet idiot who uses phrases like 'gravy train poster' and nitpicks at single or double hyphens like that's NOT utterly Batsh*t Crazy. Keep on pecking away,Sheldon Cooper. Youre not in charge of anything.

@zuzu331

Oh, you care! It is why you keep trying to "win!" Despite the fact you're wrong on so many thing (I.E. Under Armor, Ryan's time at BC, Panthers success running against the Falcons, etc.); you keep trying to frame the narrative. The sad thing is, you keep thinking that strategy you're using is novel. Seriously, ask DawgNole how that has worked out for the people going down that route. You can holler "bully," "troll," and all of your cliches. You're just blustering cavalcade of palabra language.

@zuzu331

Snore, get back at me when you have something to actually say. Was that "butchering" before or after you mangled using the present perfect tense in your little tirade? Or, was it when you continued that disturbing trend of a lack of attention to punctuation that is always present in your musings? Pray tell, how do you survive on a daily basis?

@JSSN  As I have had a laugh out of your 'destruction' of people on a blog, your butchered English, your ridiculous threats and your nonstop juvenile diatribes, you trolling moron. You have indeed proven you are a superior searcher of pointless internet minutae that no one gives a DAMN about. You win a cookie.
