Each morning, from now until the draft starts on May 8, we’ll do a short profile of a player who’s on the Falcons’ Draft Board. We’ll focus on team-needs, possible selections, players the Falcons have worked out and/or interviewed, etc. The Falcons own 10 picks in this draft. Today we’ll look at Auburn defensive end Dee Ford, who’s set to visit Flowery Branch this week.

 Player: Dee Ford

Position: Outside linebacker/defensive end

School: Auburn

Height and weight: 6-1, 250

Pro Day numbers:  Vertical: 35 1/2. Broad: 10-4. Bench: 29 times. 40-yard dash: 4.53. Ford was not medically cleared at the combine because of a 2011 back surgery.

Projected Round: He’s the second-rated defensive end/outside linebacker in the draft and projected to be selected in the first round by NFLDraftScout.com.

Career Highlights: Ford terrorized tackles in the SEC last season as he finished the regular season with 12.5 tackles for loss, including 8.5 sacks. He was named to the coaches and Associated Press’ all-SEC team. He was the arguably the best player at the Senior Bowl.

Quotes: “I’m never satisfied. I’m really looking forward to the future. Dropping in space, it was something that was foreign to me, but I was able to really get some things done with that. Now, I’ve got some things to look forward to and to work on between now and the draft.” Ford believes he’s a better player than South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney.

Falcons level on interest: The Falcons are looking at all of the pass-rushing defensive ends in the draft. They would have to trade back into the first round to select Ford. He won’t be around when they pick in the second round.

Here is when the Falcons will select. The NFL draft is set for May 8-10:

  • Round 1 – No. 6 overall
  • Round 2 – No. 37 overall
  • Round 3 – No. 68 overall
  • Round 4 – No. 103 overall
  • Round 4 – No. 139 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 5 – No. 147 overall
  • Round 6 – No. 182 overall
  • Round 7 – No. 220 overall
  • Round 7 – No. 253 overall (compensatory)
  • Round 7 – No. 255 overall (compensatory)
