FLOWERY BRANCH — The Atlanta Falcons select Florida State running back Devonta Freeman in the fourth round of the NFL draft on Saturday.

Freeman, 5-foot-8 and 206 pounds, rushed 173 times for 1,016 yards last season. He became Florida State’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Warrick Dunn accomplished that feat in 1996.

This is the best draft the Falcons have ever made, making sound logical picks is not the norm around here.

Freeman is NOT like Rodgers. They are both short, end of comparison. Rodgers is a change of pace, outside speed guy,Freeman is a between the tackles lunchpail RB. He has some power as he ably demonstrated against Auburn and other top teams. He may just end up being our Frank Gore. Good pick, good solid kid.

One more year left for this regime and Blank will fire them. Don't understand the CB pick in the 5th round, we selected 2 DB's last year.

Why did Dimitroff pick a CB in the 5th??? That is NOT a position of need. Go get a tight end or another OL.

This move horrifies me that Dimitroff and company think their O-Line problems are all solved because they picked up one guy.

Nobody wants the SEC QBs? Shouldn't they be the best QBs because they are from the SEC?

I'm glad to see so many positive comments about this pick. My first thought was oh great we just drafted another smallish, not so fast back like Quizz Rodgers.

Devonta is a great pick for those of you who are not familiar with his college career.  He is a high character guy who was been a coach favorite his entire FSU career.  He is small in stature but has a huge heart and is extremely tough and durable.  Get pass protection and he is consistent.  He isn't as explosive as Warrick Dunn and not quite as good catching passes otherwise he is very similar in terms of initial explosion and character.  Falcon fans will be happy with this pick. watch his film from the Cane game last year.

For those hoping for a late round pass rusher, please keep this in mind. How much better does a 4th round pick rookie project to be than Maponga, Bierman, Bartu, and Goodman at OLB/pass rush specialist? Better to fill other positions like RB and S.

WilliamCoit.....J. Rodgers is a bust and is fortunate to still be on a roster.  Devonta seems to be a much better back, but we shall see.  It can't be any worse than what the Falcons already have at this position.  To get 1,000 yds plus at FSU is saying something.  They always rotate guys and many backs don't get the carries.  They saw something in him at FSU and handed him the rock more than anyone else in the past 18 yrs.  I like this pick, now get some additional linemen!!!

Another Frank Gore?

DRAFT PROJECTIONRounds 2-3Compactly built, downhill slasher with the agility and balanced skill set to emerge as a workhorse back. Earned the top assignment in a very talented backfield and has a similar build, running style and all-around utility as San Francisco 49ers 2005 third-round pick Frank Gore. Could prove to be a better pro than college player.

Ya know... There have been much better QB prospects who never got drafted that were loads better than McCarron. A selfish interview wouldn't drop you in the draft that much. How many players drafted so far has stated they wanted to be great players as opposed to helping their team win a Super Bowl? Almost all of them. Clowney hasn't mentioned "help my team" once.

DJlaysitup

Could partially be a money saving move WC....put together the savings between Devonta and JQuizz and add in some other $$ and maybe afford another free agent without really losing anything at the RB position.

who will sack the qb?? we need pass rush whats we have left that is good??

Interesting to hear that A.J. McCarron's interviews turned off just about every NFL GM.   Now we know why his center wanted to beat the crap out of him on national TV during the NC game vs. Notre Dame.

We need another OLB and another OL (Richardson - Tennessee and Yankey - Stanford).   Then a TE.

I don't see the reasoning behind the selection of Devonta Freeman.  You already have a similar player in Jacquizz Rodgers who was productive last year. Are we going to release him and go with the younger, cheaper draft pick? Should have selected a D-end or Linebacker.

Good pickup. Pick the least ghetto show boaters. That's the last thing we need. IMMATURE PLAYERS. MATURE FALCONS 2014-2015 LMAO

I am really disappointed in the draft coverage.  Where are the details about our 2nd and 3rd round picks?  Why was the safety projected 4th round and we took him early 3rd.  At least they gave combine results for these guys but nothing for the FSU RB.  I guess some intern is making the posts.

Not only a power back but also a great blocker along with ability to catch the ball out of the back field for huge gains. Potential Snelling right here or maybe even better who knows!

DCDirtyBird

Outside of Trufant, Alford, and McClain, we have no real talent at CB.

OriginalATLien

You my sir are an idiot, if you don't understand the pick. It's not as if we used the 1st or 2nd round pick on a CB.

DCDirtyBird

The line should be improved with a healthy Baker, Asamoah, and Matthews. We lack depth at DB. I'm not sure about the player, but we need young DBs to develop.

DJlaysitup
DJlaysitup

@slydawg ...true...and I think we tend to be SEC-centric sometimes.  All three of Murray, McCarron, and Mettenberger have flaws that can potentially derail them at the next level.  I'm not sure any of them will be picked before mid-5th or so.

@Iluvnutella Good call. Sign a multi year contract with FREE SEAFOOD bonus. Problem solved. lol

And the reason is TD got D Robinson for about $10 mil and let him go, let Grimes go, trained C Owens to finally be decent and let him go. When do we pick good FA's at a decent price or draft mid to late rounders and develop them. Last year was a God send. MS was exposed with his lack of development and WPP causing no depth.

Dirtyb8
Dirtyb8

@DJlaysitup @slydawg  Any news on Tajh Boyd? Wasn't he supposed to be like a top QB prospect coming into the draft?

TampGator1
TampGator1

@Dirtyb8

Don't know all the details......but Polan, the former GM for the Colts and ESPN talking head now for the draft.....reported last night that McCarron has dropped so far in the draft because of the self centered things he said during his interviews, as well as saying very unflattering things about his former teammates and other players.  They feel he has the potential to create a lot of issues on a team by the things he freely says and does.

Dirtyb8
Dirtyb8

@TampGator1 Interesting. Sounds like an insecure guy trying to take all the credit because he knows he played in a system with a great running game complimented by excellent O line protection. Wouldn't be surprised though if he falls to Houston.

@WolfWithanE @Iluvnutella good to know. FSU players are like a box of chocolates. u never know what ur gonna get!  (D. Sanders, D.Dockett, W. Dunn vs Devin Bush, E. Sims)
