I coached 18 seasons in the NFL after starting out as a high school and then a college coach. Up until that time most. NFL teams played a 4-3 defense - My boss and head coached wanted us to change to a 3-4. In staff meeting everybody in the room knew a lot more about pro football than I did, but I knew the 3-4. We went from a history of losing teams, but gradually got better and by 1980 we became the NFC champs losing to the Raiders in Super Bowl 15.
