Angerer, 27, was trying to make a comeback after undergoing microfracture knee surgery in December. The Colts selected Angerer in the second round of the 2010 draft out of Iowa and he started 39 of 53 games for them before ending last season on injured reserve.

The Falcons selected Smallwood in the seventh-round (253 overall) of the draft.

Hagens was an undrafted rookie from Miami. He played in all 13 games, making five starts for the Hurricans. He also played on special teams.

Check back later for more updates on the cuts.

The Falcons later announced that they have waived defensive end Nosa Eguae, cornerback Jordan Mabin, wide receiver Freddie Martino, safety Kimario McFadden, tight end Jacob Pedersen, offensive lineman Adam Replogle and defensive tackle Donte Rumph, offensive tackle Pat McQuistan and running back Josh Vaughan.

Martino catches a heroic 68 yard pass so of course we need to cut him! I guess that means Antone Smith is next..

Did we cut that big tub of lard Hageman yet? Or is he Atlanta's new Dan Uggla - big dumb muscle bound guy that can't play but we gotta keep him on the team or it will make the GM look bad!

Pat, you are a great player, and I'm sure this call by the coaches was razor-thin.  Thanks for showing us all what it means to love playing football, and what true intensity looks like.  I wouldn't be surprised to see that your phone rings in the next few days.

I was really hoping Angerer would stick here.  The Falcons sure need what he used to bring to the field.  I hope he makes it with some NFL team.

I seriously thought Angerer would make the team and eventually earn significant playing time.........a little surprised here. I think he is a better ILB than both Worrilow and Bartu. I am absolutely convinced he is better than Dobbins!

The Defense will be the Achilles hill once again. The secondary is awful and we have ZERO edge rushers. Would have been a descent defense with Abraham and Osi on the edges....

No surprises here. They should consider promoting TJ Yates to starting QB since he played way better last night than MRyan did the entire preseason.

I thought that Pat Angerer's stats this preseason were pretty good. It has to be injury related, right?
