Former Tampa Bay head coach Raheem Morris is set to accept a position with the Atlanta Falcons, according to the Washington Post.
Morris, 38, currently Washington’s defensive backs coach, is scheduled to interview with the Falcons for a hybrid assistant-defensive coordinator position under new coach Dan Quinn, two sources told Mike Jones of the Washington Post. Another person familiar with the plans said that meeting is basically a formality.
Quinn will coach in the Super Bowl as defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks before being officially named the Falcons head coach on Monday, Feb. 2 in Atlanta. He’s expected to call the defensive plays.
Morris played under Quinn in the late 1990s at Hofstra.
Morris coached in Washington the past
three seasons. He interviewed for the New York Giants’ defensive coordinator position this offseason, but did not get that job.
Morris was the head coach of the Buccaneers from 2009-11 and posted a 17-31 record.
