Godfather: Falcons should trade for Tamba Hali

FLOWERY BRANCH – The Godfather Gil Brandt, the former longtime personnel man with the Dallas Cowboys, believes the Falcons should make a play for Kansas City’s Tamba Hali in order to improve the pass rush before the league’s Nov. 3 trading deadline.

The Falcons have let Carolina make a move for Jared Allen and Arizona for Dwight Freeney.

Baltimore signed Jason Babin, but have since released him.

In a column for NFL.Com, Brandt wrote about seven trades he’d like to see happen.

He thinks the Chiefs should start selling off some veterans since they are 2-5.

Hali, 31, is set to be a free agent and would therefore be highly motivated. The four-time Pro Bowler has 82.5 career sacks.

The Falcons have a league-low eight sacks.

Here’s what Brandt wrote about the prospective trade.

Tamba Hali, OLB, to the Falcons

The 2-5 Chiefs should think about selling off some veterans. The 31-year-old Hali is set to be a free agent, and Kansas City has a former first-round draft pick in Dee Ford presumably waiting in the wings to replace Hali. Hali might be in his 10th season, but he’s coming off a five-tackle, two-sack performance in which he also forced a fumble, and he could definitely help the Falcons. Atlanta ranks second against the run but 25th against the pass, with a league-low eight sacks — if Hali can boost the Falcons‘ pass rush, their defense could suddenly become a factor. He’s probably worth a fifth-rounder, but I’d be happy with a sixth if I were the Chiefs.

In the past, Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has stated his disdain for in-season trades, but that was before Dan Quinn had final say over the roster.

The Falcons are admittedly having some issues on offense. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter and CineSport’s Noah Coslov get in those details while previewing Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

How did the Falcons get to 6-1?

Here’s a look back at the game stories, news and notes from their win over the Titans (10-7), the loss to the Saints (31-21) and their victories over the Redskins (25-19 in OT), Texans (48-21), Cowboys (39-28), Giants (24-20) and Eagles (26-24).
