FLOWERY BRANCH – It was a busy opening day to free agency for the Atlanta Falcons, who hit a home run with the signing of center Alex Mack.
Then, true to their recent form, the Falcons went value shopping to land defensive end Derrick Shelby, re-sign defensive end Adrian Clayborn and backup quarterback Matt Schaub.
(ASIDE FROM THE PRO DAY CIRCUIT: While free agency was going down, linebacker’s coach Jeff Ulbrich was over in Tuscaloosa checking out former Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland.)
Falcons coach Dan Quinn was thrilled about the Mack signing.
Here are the contract breakdowns:
–Alex Mack was signed to five-year, $45 million deal
–Shelby was signed to a four-year, $21 million deal
–Clayborn was signed to a two-year, $9 million deal
–Schaub, who’s best known around town as Michael Vick’s former backup, deal was undisclosed.
–The Falcons also officially parted ways with nose tackle Paul Soliai.
Quinn also said the team is set to host wide receiver Mohamed Sanu on Thursday.
He’s a candidate to replace the recently released Roddy White as the team’s No. 2 wide receiver.
