FLOWERY BRANCH — Here are five things you need to know about the Atlanta Falcons this week:

The Falcons report to training camp on Wednesday. The first practice is set for  Thursday, July 28. Here’s the training camp schedule with the list of practices that will be open to the public.

1. Media session set.  Falcons coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff will meet with the media on Tuesday to discuss training camp. We hope to get a medical update on returner receiver Devin Hester, who missed all of the offseason workouts while recovering from foot and toe surgery in January. Also, Dimitroff can update us on the Dwight Freeney scenario and if they are still interested in cornerbacks after they worked out veterans Leon Hall and Brandon Boykins over the offseason.

2. Championship mettle. Falcons coach Dan Quinn put his stamp on this team over the offseason with several moves designed to turn the team in championship contenders.

3. Is Julio Jones the best player in the NFL. Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones was spectacular last season and is definitely in the top tier of players in the NFL.

4. 5 position battles to watch. Here are five position battles to watch when camp starts.

5. Matt Ryan to speak. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who must cut his turnovers down (16 interceptions and eight lost fumbles) this season, is set to speak to the media on Friday.
