Here’s what the Falcons had to say after after the 23-17 exhibition win over the Redskins:

QUARTERBACK MATT RYAN

On the offense:

“Well, I thought offensively the first two series were not what we wanted. We started a little bit slow. I think on that first series, starting backed up on the one-yard line, I think we’ve got to do a better job of punching that out and getting that outside the 10-yard line so we can at least play more than a three possession down. In the second series, we just missed on a couple of throws and had a chance to extend those drives and just didn’t do it. So it is what it is, not the start we wanted but we’ll get back to work on Sunday, get better, and improve. I thought the offense did a nice job coming in in the second quarter, third quarter, creating some explosive plays and I thought our quarterbacks did a nice job.”

 On QB Matt Schaub’s performance:

“I thought he did a great job tonight. He and WR Aldrick (Robinson) did a nice job. Those guys were together I think last year, they came together from Baltimore. They made some explosive plays, it was fun to watch. They did a good job. I thought QB Sean Renfree came in and did a great job for us in the third quarter as well, made a couple nice passes down the sideline, I think one to WR Eric Weems had another chance for a big play there. So I thought our guys did a nice job.”

 On how the receivers played:

“Yeah, I thought our receivers did pretty well for the first time out. Some new guys – Mohamed Sanu came up with a nice catch. I think Aldrick had a really nice night, made some explosive plays for us. I think we’ve got a good bunch of guys, a really good bunch of guys and I think they’re going to be productive all year.”

On starting the first possession on the half-yard line:

“Yeah, from a field position standpoint, obviously that’s not where you want to start, but like I said, it’s a good experience for us to have. When you get one of those situations in the preseason, you can learn from it, adjust from it and hopefully when we get those chances in the regular season, we’ll be more productive in that situation than we were tonight.”

On what he takes out of a preseason game:

“For me, the biggest thing always in preseason game one is to just get back into it, knock that rust off. For a quarterback – some of the other positions, you’re a little more physical during training camp so that grace period’s not always the same – but playing quarterback it’s always nice to get in that pocket, feel that movement around you, to get comfortable with that. And then you look to make big strides week one to week two and hopefully that’s what I’m going to do.”

 On moving forward:

“Well, we’ve got to take a look at the film. I think there are some good things we did, we’ll watch the film, try and evaluate what to do and then – like anything this time of year – every chance you can get on the practice field is huge for trying to improve and to be at our best when we start off in the regular season in September.”

 QUARTERBACK MATT SCHAUB

On how Training Camp prepared him for the game:

“You just take each day of camp and try to improve and keep getting better. For me, it is about being new to the team, just getting to know the guys, continuing to pick up where we left from OTA’s, getting to know them, getting camaraderie in the huddle, and just keep climbing the ladder.”

On playing in the Georgia Dome in a Falcons uniform:

“It was great. It was great to be back in the Georgia Dome and play in front of these fans. It is a great fan base, and I am just we came out on top.”

WIDE RECEIVER ALDRICK ROBINSON

 On his two big plays:

“Oh it was big for me, I’ve been making a lot of big plays downfield in practice and it was good to transition into the game.”

On playing against his old team:

“I talked to those guys before the game and they already knew I was having a good camp. I told them I was going deep on them.”

WIDE RECEIVER JD MCKISSIC

On the touchdown return:

“I was just running. The other 10 guys did a great job of knowing the scheme and double teaming – trap blocking – who they needed to block. I had the easiest job to just find the hole.”

 On his first NFL game:

“I was very excited, coming straight from college and getting the opportunity to put on a uniform, I have to give a big thank you to the organization for giving me a chance. I’m truly blessed to be here. Being out at Flowery Branch, it didn’t hit me until now.”

On playing well on special teams being a way to impress Coach Quinn:

“Special teams is the way for a guy like me, so the main thing is to psych myself into going hard every play on special teams, and keep showing them that I can help on either of the units.”
