Falcons need to use Antone Smith like Eagles use Darren Sproles

  • 9:45 am Tuesday, September 16th, 2014 by D. Orlando Ledbetter

FLOWERY BRANCH — The NFL is copycat league and the Falcons needs to steal a few pages out of the Eagles playbook and use Antone Smith and/or Devonta Freeman like the Eagles are using Darren Sproles.

The former New Orleans Saint was a terror in space last night against the Colts. He had 11 touches for 178 yards. He had four rushes for 26 yards and caught seven passes for 152 yards.

He powered the Eagles to a 30-27 comeback victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Now, Sproles did get some lovely blocking on those screens.

If the Falcons can make those blocks, Antone Smith [More]

He was a limited participant in practice on Monday. Falcons coach Mike Smith said he expects Matthews to fully participate in practice on Tuesday.

“It went well,” Matthews said. “It was nice to go out there and do some stuff with the guys. It’s something that is going to take time and a lot more healing, but I was excited to get out there. It’s getting better every day. I’m a little excited for [More]

REPORT CARD: Ryan had one of his worst games

  • 7:05 am Monday, September 15th, 2014 by D. Orlando Ledbetter

CINCINNATI — Falcons coach Mike Smith was correct this week when he concluded that his team was beat in all phases of the game, including coaching.

The Bengals, with their average quarterback, mauled the Falcons with a ferocious running game and an unrelenting defense.

It was like the old days in Cincinnati back in 1988 when running back James Brooks (981 yards, 8 TDs) provided the lightning and Ickey Woods (1,066 yards, 15 TDs) the thunder.

Giovani Bernard handled the lightning and Jeremy Hill, the former LSU standout, was the thunder back as the Bengals grinded their way to 170 yard on 45 [More]

  • 12:00 am Thursday, September 11th, 2014 by D. Orlando Ledbetter

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White took to twitter to encourage NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to admit he “messed up” the Ray Rice domestic violence investigation.

White, who goes by @RoddyWhiteTV, later deleted his tweets.

Rodger should just come out and say we messed up and drop the ball on this one but he won’t to much pride and it’s a lot of that in the nfl

FLOWERY BRANCH – Cincinnati’s Marvin Lewis is in his franchise-record 12th season as head coach of the Bengals.

He has led the Bengals to the postseason in four of the last five years, including three straight.

Here’s what Lewis had to say when talking to the Atlanta media on Wednesday.

He spoke with the Atlanta media during a conference call on Wednesday:

Q: Can you walk us through that game-winning touchdown catch you made against Baltimore?

A: It was just a double-go. Andy (Dalton) gave me a good ball. I got by (the defender). I juggled it a little bit, but I was able to contain it and go in for the score.

Q: How big of a [More]
