FLOWERY BRANCH — The countdown rolls on!

Coach Mike Smith, who was out in Montana, and general manager Thomas Dimitroff, who was out cycling with Lance Armstrong, reported back to the office on Monday.

The HBO cameras are all in place and rolling. The first big event was Smith’s staff meeting with the assistant coaches.

The rookies report today, the veterans Thursday and the first practice is set for Friday.

5 undrafted rookies to watch in training camp

FLOWERY BRANCH – Normally, there is an inordinate amount of attention flashed upon undrafted rookie free agents.

A lot of the “Twitter GMs” obsess over these roster-lottery-longshots. The “Message Board Moguls” ponder possible fantasy football implications.

It’s normally a futile excercise as most of them will back on the streets in a few weeks. Mostly, they will have stories to tell their grand children about going to training camp with an NFL team.

Projecting the players who have a legitimate chance to make the 53-man roster is like picking a needle in a haystack.

Falcons sign 20 undrafted rookies, 5 from SEC

FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons released their list of 20 undrafted free agents that have signed with the team on Monday.

We had 17 of the 20 names for you on Sunday. The three additions are Arkansas State wide receiver Julian Jones, Kansas State wide receiver Tramaine Thompson and Wisconsin tight end Brian Wozniak.

Here’s the list of players:
