FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons coach Mike Smith was noncommittal when asked twice if running back Steven Jackson would play against Jacksonville on Thursday.

“In terms of what we’re going to do with playing time, there will be some guys that will and there will be some guys that won’t,” Smith said. “We’ve got some guys that we need to get some work and we’ve got some guys that we definitely know what they’re capable of doing. Kevin Cone to work out for Panthers on Friday

Wide receiver Kevin Cone, who was not extended an exclusive-rights tender by the Falcons, is set to workout for the Carolina Panthers on Friday, according to his agent Mark Clouser.

Also, Jacksonville is interested in Cone.

The former Georgia Tech player who walked onto the team after transferring from NAIA Shorter College was one of two exclusive rights free agents for the Falcons. Wide receiver Drew Davis did receive a tender offer of $570,000.

Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is set to leave for Phoenix today to start the final month of his preparations before Georgia’s Pro Day on April 16.

“He will work with quarterback coach Terry Shea,” said Pat Dye, Jr., Murray’s Atlanta-based agent. “We think the first week he’s there he’s going to be working with RGIII (Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III).”
