GREENSBORO — Longtime NFL assistant coach Tom Moore, 75, knows a few things about developing quarterbacks.

While with the Indianapolis Colts, he helped to develop Peyton Manning. Moore is currently a consultant with the Arizona Cardinals. He coached at Georgia Tech in 1970-71.

He likes how the Falcons have brought along quarterback Matt Ryan after drafting him third overall in the 2008 draft.

“I think he’s an excellent quarterback,” Moore said before playing in Bruce Arians golf outing on Monday. “I think he’s had great success. He’s got in some situations last year with injuries and things like that, but that does not [More]

We purposefully didn’t do 10,000 mocks during the extended pre-draft process this year.

That time was better spent on researching players, keeping track of the private workouts and doing as many interviews and conference calls as possible.

We are going to call this one Mock 4.0 and reserve the right to put up the Final Mock by 12 noon Thursday before heading out to Flowery Branch for the festivities.

Here’s how the first round of the NFL draft will proceed on May 8:

Mock 2.0: Falcons trade up to land OT Greg Robinson

The Atlanta Falcons are not playing around.

Next week is a big as the Falcons finalize their board for the NFL draft, which will be held May 8-10. This will be the “grit and toughness” draft. Don’t look for them to deviate on character. They will stay close to normal methods of drafting players with degrees, former team captains and individuals with high football IQ’s.

The Falcons start offseason conditioning on Monday. We’ll have some media access on Tuesday.

Also, several of the top prospects including UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr, South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack are scheduled to visit Flowery Branch [More]

Mayock concerned about Clowney’s mentality

  • 4:00 pm Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 by D. Orlando Ledbetter

INDIANAPOLIS – NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock is ready to hold court for the next week and help anchor the league’s television coverage.

He likes the 2014 draft class, which is headed by South Carolina’s defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

“This year, the draft is stacked,” Mayock said. “I think you can get a quality player for three or four rounds.”

After the 2013 collapse, the Falcons are set to pick sixth overall in this deep draft. They have all seven of their picks and
could end up with three or four compensatory picks.

“One reason is the playmakers at the top of this draft,” Mayock said. “It’s [More]
