Louisville’s Preston Brown to work out for Falcons

Former Louisville middle linebacker Preston Brown, who led the Cardinals in tackles last season, is set to workout for the Falcons on Wednesday in Louisville.

Also, Marcus Smith, Louisville defensive end/linebacker, told reporters that he’s set to work out of the Falcons, too.

Brown, 6-foot-2, 260 pounds, led the Cardinals with 98 tackles (71 solos, 27 assists). He had 12.5 tackles for losses, 4.5 sacks, seven quarterback hits, two fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.

He returned a fumble 48 yards for a touchdown against Memphis on Nov. 23.

Falcons didn’t directly address their lack of a pass rush in free agency.

However, they have taken four defensive ends in recent drafts — Cliff Matthews, Jonathan Massaquoi, Malliciah Goodman and Stansly Maponga — and hope to get Kroy Biermann back next season from Achilles surgery. However, they appear ready to address the pass rush in the draft.

Lousiville’s Marcus Smith, a 6-foot-3, 252 pound defensive end/linebacker, said that he has a workout scheduled with the Falcons on Wednesday, according to Jody Demling, who’s at Louisville’s Pro Day. (He’s the publisher of Cardinal Authority, a  site.)

NFL combine: Norcross’ Hubbard has solid day

INDIANAPOLIS — Former Alabama linebacker Adrian Hubbard, of Norcross High, had a solid day on Monday at the NFL scouting combine.

He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.69 seconds, had a vertical jump of 38.5 inches and had a broad jump of 9 feet, 9 inches.

He measured 6-foot-6, weighed 257 pounds, had a wingspan of 82.5 inches and his hands were measured at 9.2.

Hubbard believes he can play outside linebacker in the 3-4 or 4-3.

“I can play outside on the edge of the defense leveraging the ball,” Hubbard said. “I’ve played 3-4 outside linebacker and 4-3 end.”
