NEW YORK – Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and new assistant general manager Scott Pioli made the rounds at radio row on Thursday at the Super Bowl.

Afterwards, Dimitroff granted an exclusive interview to me and columnist Jeff Schultz of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Schultz, a long-time former beat writer, went into “Beast Mode” and I knew to just get downfield and get some blocks for him. When he needed a break, I jumped in with a question or two, until he got his wind back.

There is some drama brewing in the Branch!

The hiring of Scott Pioli as the new assistant general manager was a sound football move by the Falcons.

But when he arrives after working the Super Bowl for NBC Sports and Sirius Radio, he comes with a checkered past that doesn’t fit the culture that’s been cultivated by owner Arthur Blank and executed by president Rich McKay, general manager Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Mike Smith.

MOBILE, Ala. – Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and new assistant general manager Scott Pioli did an interview with the team’s flagship station, 790TheZone before talking to the media group.
